![]() Didn't drill or anything, just shoved the tubing in and called it good. I put a piece of airline tubing into the U-tube, hooked to the venturi fitting of a Maxi-jet pump to make sure it never loses siphon. It hasn't been there long, but it's a pretty good piece of kit for the modest dollar outlay. I'm using an eshopps nano overflow box on my 20L. But, over heated/blown out pump > than water logged floor/electrical I''m trying to think of fail safes as well, such as putting the pump higher in the sump, so if the siphon does fail, it'll kick out air, rather than water. also, I ran an overflow box on my freshwater tank for years with no issues.Ĭool. overall, I have been running mine tuned into my desired flow rate with no problems what so ever. when I reduce the the pump flow back, you can see the misc bubbles slowing down in the u tube and making it harder for them to pass through. my tube is clear- so, any misc air bubbles pass right through at normal flow rate. pump flow has to be matched to the rating of the overflow. Note: if you try to run your overflow at a reduced flow- well below the recommended flow for u-tube then you will eventually get some air trapped in the u-tube as the flow isnt fast enough to push any misc air that is caused by water cascading into the overflow internal box. no need to re-prime the U-tube- its baffle design prevents air from entering tube when there is power failure or pump failure. power can go off and you lose minum water- when power resumes- it automatic restarts. Its "awesome" in one word! fail safe design. I run the lifereef overflow on my red sea max.
